Drum Lesson Information

What to learn to play the drums? Then you've come to the right place!

Complete beginners can start learning straight away with no previous knowledge or experience necessary.
You will be given a solid foundation upon which to build your studies, using what you learn straight away by playing along to tracks.

If you have experience then we can pick up where your previous studies left off and fill in any gaps in your knowledge as we go.

- What can I expect to learn in my first few lessons -

- Basic rock grooves (rhythms) that you would have most likely heard before in the music you listen to.
- Fills, which are breaks in basic rhythm where you get to show off what you can do.
- How to hold your sticks correctly and basic technique for both the hands and feet.
- How to play along to a track using a suitable rhythm which complements what the other instruments are doing.
- Drum Rudiments and basic practice techniques that you can use between lessons.

- Where does it go from there? -

Once basic patterns have been learnt, the emphasis is very much upon your own creativity. You will be given the tools you need to create imaginative and unique patterns, and will be encouraged to tailor and expand your own original approach to playing the drums.

Grades are integrated into the Drumsense syllabus to gauge your performance and they provide good milestones to keep students moving forward.

One of the best things about the syllabus is that there is always something else to work on if you get stuck. We can leave tricky areas for a while, sidestep to other aspects of drumming and return to the exercise when it comes a more naturally.

Eventually you will be encouraged to explore different styles of music, learn to read drum music and charts, learn contemporary and classic songs and find other musicians to practice with and form a band!
